汽車分動箱起動力分配和降速增矩的作用。

分動箱是四驅車傳動系統中不可缺少的傳動部件。分動箱把發動機輸出的驅動力分配到前軸,或者前後軸各驅動輪,並進一步增大扭矩。分動箱由齒輪傳動,所以保養需要使用齒輪油,齒輪油可以給齒輪和軸承潤滑和散熱,還有防止磨損和銹蝕的作用。
