Automotive Air Conditioner Pressure Sensor
Nowadays, mid-range and high-end cars, especially those with automatic air conditioning, usually use a pressure sensor to sense the system pressure and to measure whether the pressure is normal.
It is the equivalent of a manifold pressure sensor and is generally of the pressure sensitive resistive type. The structure is shown in the diagram
The air conditioning pressure sensor is located on the high pressure side of the refrigerant line to protect the refrigeration system from damage caused by too high or too low pressure. If the pressure in the system exceeds or falls below the specified value, the refrigerant pressure sensor detects the pressure in the refrigerant line and sends a voltage signal to the ECU. When the refrigerant pressure sensor detects that the pressure on the high side is above 2746 kPa or below 134 kPa, the ECU will shut down the relay and stop the compressor. The pressure sensor is used not only for pressure control, but also as a control signal for the cooling fan, which operates at high speed when the refrigerant pressure is detected above 1.7 kP.
